 POPINFO(1) POPINFO(1)

 NAME
      PopInfo - a Motif based file browser/editor

 SYNOPSIS
      popinfo [-toolkit options]

 DESCRIPTION
PopInfo is a simple file browser and editor. It enables you to keep a
selection of files represented as pushbuttons, with titles, in the
main window. A simple selection of an item will "pop up" the
corresponding file in it's own window. The items are stored in a
resourcefile. You can add or remove entries from the list, and you
can edit, save, print or mail the files from the text window.

 USAGE
The main window consists of: a dumb but nice picture, a vertical list
of item buttons and a horisontal row of option buttons.

Add will pop up a window and prompt you for a title and a filename.
It will only accept valid filenames. A toggle can be set to set the
file as read only. The resourcefile will be updated automatically and
a new item will be added at the bottom of the list, on valid
      insertion.

Remove will change the cursor and grab the screen, limiting the
cursor-movement to within the geometry of the list of items.
Selecting an item (pushbutton) will physically remove it from the list
and from the resourcefile. Free safety is ensured. Your morals, height
      and shoesize
will be required before the item is cancelled.

      Quit will exit the program.

Pushing on an item will pop up a window with the contents of the
specified file in a scrollable text window. The bottom of the window
contains the option buttons and a message bar.

The text window provides simple editing capabilities and the mouse can
be used to select ranges of text for copying/pasting/deletion. The
text window will initially display the cursor at the start of the
file. The scrollbars will adjust automatically if the text exceeds the
maximum number of rows or columns.

Quit will close the window, without saving any changes that might have
      been made.

Save will uncritically save the displayed text onto the original file.
It will not create backup copies of the original file. If the file was
entered with the read only toggle set, this button will be disabled.

 POPINFO(1) POPINFO(1)

Print will pop up a window prompting you for the name of the printer
you wish to print the file on. The program will use your default
printer if no printername was inserted and you chose to print.

Mail will pop up a window prompting you for a recipient and a subject
for the text you wish to send. The 'Subject:' field is optional and
you will send the text to yourself if you omit filling in the 'To:'
      field.

PopInfo can be used for many things. You can use one or all of its
options as they suit you. If they don't suit you, you can't use it for
much or anything. The author uses it (or used it untill he had
nightmares about the program name) as a garbage collector, a quick
message sender, a notepad (never used xpostit), and mostly as a way of
managing and modifying resource files and application defaults files.
References to 'xpostit' and 'sysinfo' where slyly dropped by people
with no imagination or sense of political correctness, during the
design of this program and does bring to mind the most obvious uses of
      this program.

 FILES AND ENVIRONMENT
$POPINFORCFILE - environment variable to set the resource file for
      PopInfo.

$HOME/.popinforc - the default resource file, containing the list of
titles and filenames. Blank lines and comments (# blahblahblah) can be
      used.

$USERFILESEARCHPATH/PopInfo - the application defaults for PopInfo.
Can be merged with .Xdefaults or .Xresources if you're into masochism.

 BUGS
Comments in the resourcefile disappear when you add or remove an item.
Memory leaks (at least with Motif 1.1)... For poor coding see
FEATURES. Suggestions for changes and help on portability would be
      much obliged.
