Many users of telnet, rlogin, ftp and other such programs might not realise that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted. OpenSSH effectively eliminates eavesdropping, connection hijacking and other network-level attacks. Note that host keys are not shipped in the binary depots and should be generated post-installation via the ssh-host-key-setup command.
