BEFORE INSTALLING:
Included in the tar file are precompiled gawk, gs, pbmplus
and xlisp. However, as far as xlisp and pbmplus go, only
executables and libraries needed to run WebMaker are provided.

            The new installation script can:
            - install WebMaker
            - install the included precompiled gawk/gs/pbmplus/xlisp
              in the location you specify.
            - test the installation (for this the software listed in
the RUNTIME file must be installed).

Whenever possible, use the runtime software that is already
installed on your system. Although these are not needed at
install time (unless you run the test), you will be asked
questions on the location of some libraries of xlisp and
            ghostscript.

TO INSTALL:
read carefully this file, as well as RUNTIME, HISTORY
            and COPYRIGHT.

If this is not your first WebMaker installation, just
have a look at the HISTORY file to see what is new.

To install WebMaker and/or gawk, gs, pbmplus, xlisp,
and/or test the installation go to the install
directory (cd install), read the README file,
            and follow the instructions.

TO TEST MANUALLY:
If the automatic test provided with the installation script
failed or you want to run the tests by hand:

first make sure you have the software listed
in the RUNTIME file, then go to the test directory
("cd test" if you use FrameMaker 4 or "cd test3" if you
use FrameMaker 3), read the README file, and follow
            the instructions.

TO USE:
you are now ready to use the system. We suggest that
you read the user's manual once, and look carefully
at the examples provided with the installation in the
example directory. Further examples can be found at

            http://www.cern.ch/WebMaker/examples.html

we will keep adding more at that location.

TO REPORT PROBLEMS:
please fill and send the problem report form PROBREP
            to webmaker@cern.ch.

Let us know how it goes as you go along. After you have used the system,
you may fill in the evaluation form in the file EVALFORM and mail it back
to webmaker@cern.ch. Thank you.
